Protecting Clay County’s Water for the Future
Water is our most precious resource. In Clay County, we draw our drinking water from the Floridan Aquifer. To ensure this source remains abundant for future generations, we must work together to use it wisely. Clay County Utility Authority (CCUA) provides the programs and guidance to help you reduce waste and save money on your monthly bill.
Reclaimed Water Program
One of the most effective ways we conserve drinking water is by utilizing reclaimed water for irrigation.
How it Works: We process wastewater to advanced standards and send it back to the community through a separate distribution system.
The Benefits: By using reclaimed water for irrigation, we significantly reduce the amount of fresh groundwater withdrawn from the aquifer.
Note: Reclaimed water is for irrigation only and is not suitable for drinking or filling pools.

Smart Conservation Tips
You don't need to make drastic lifestyle changes to make a big impact. Small adjustments to your daily routine can lead to significant savings.
Outdoor Conservation:
- Check your Sprinklers: Broken heads and misdirected sprays often water sidewalks and driveways.
- Rain Sensors: Ensure your automatic rain shut-off device is functioning. You shouldn't be watering while it's raining!
Indoor Conservation:
- Fix the Drip: A toilet that runs continuously or a faucet that drips can waste hundreds of gallons a week.
- Full Loads Only: Run your dishwasher and washing machine only when they are full to maximize efficiency.
Watering Restrictions
Adhering to the watering schedule is not just about conservation—it is the law. To reduce stress on the water supply, strict irrigation schedules are in place.
Know Your Days: Residential irrigation is generally limited to specific days based on your house number and the time of year (Daylight Savings vs. Eastern Standard Time).

Florida-Friendly Landscaping
The best way to save water is to design a landscape that loves Florida's climate. By planting native species that are drought-tolerant, you can create a vibrant yard that requires minimal irrigation.
