How Smart Meters Improve Accuracy & Efficiency
This program is part of CCUA’s investment in smart water management. Here is how the upgrade benefits our community:
-
Accuracy You Can Trust
Traditional water meters can slow down or lose precision over time. New meters provide highly accurate readings, helping ensure you’re billed only for the water you actually use.
-
Efficiency That Saves Time
Updated reading technology allows our technicians to collect data remotely and securely, minimizing manual work, reducing operational costs, and preventing potential reading errors.
-
Faster Service & Quicker Insights
These meters support faster leak detection and usage monitoring—so you can be notified sooner if there’s a potential problem with your service line.

Important Safety Notice: Thermal Expansion
Please read this section carefully regarding your home plumbing.
The installation of a new dual check valve on your water supply may create a closed internal system. In a closed system, water expands as it is heated by your water heater, which can cause pressure to build up (thermal expansion).
Your Responsibilities:
- Check Your T&P Valve: Verify that the Temperature and Pressure relief valve (T&P) on your water heater is in good working condition.
- Thermal Expansion Devices: It is the customer's responsibility to ensure a thermal expansion valve, tank, or calibrated pressure relief valve is installed at the heating source in accordance with local plumbing codes.
- If In Doubt: Please contact a licensed plumber to inspect your system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be home for the retrofit?
Usually, no. Most meters are located outdoors, so our crews can complete the work without needing access to your home or yard.
Will my water pressure change?
No. The retrofit will not affect your water pressure or flow.
What do I do after installation?
Once the installation is complete, we recommend flushing your pipelines by running your faucets for a few minutes. This helps remove any air or loose dirt that may have entered the system during the change-out.
